WHAT MAKES US UNIQUE
ABOUT PHYSICIANS TO CHILDREN
PREVENTION
Prevention of illness in children is far better than the treatment of disease. Many of our efforts will be focused on keeping your child healthy. We strive to achieve this during well child visits. We are available 24 hours, 7 days a week to discuss your concerns either in the office, via email, or over the telephone.
COORDINATION OF CARE
Knowing that teamwork is invaluable to your child's health, each physician will be aware of any important information as it pertains to your child. If your primary pediatrician is unavailable, the others will be able to provide the appropriate care.
Unique to our practice, is our involvement with your child since birth. One of our physicians will visit you and your baby at the hospital. We take the time to examine your newborn and provide you with anticipatory guidance.
Also unique to our practice, is our our excellent coordination with pediatric sub-specialists. For instance, if your child visits a specialist we will discuss the plan of care and work together to provide the best medical decision for your child.
If your child is admitted to Nicklaus Children's Hospital (formerly Miami Children's Hospital), one of our physicians will manage the child's care daily. We will be there to explain what is taking place every step of the way.
AFTER HOURS CARE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
Should a question or medical urgency arise after office hours, please call our main number - 305-667-0940. The doctor on call will answer you directly. Our practice elects not to have an answering service, so that we can respond to your call as quickly as possible. Should you feel the situation is an emergency, in addition to calling us, please take your child to the emergency room at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, Baptist Hospital, or the nearest hospital. Please provide the hospital personnel with our name, so that they contact us.
ONSITE LABORATORY AND X-RAY
Our office has a laboratory onsite, so that we may quickly obtain results and manage your child's illness. The office also has an X-Ray machine that facilitates accurate diagnosis. These options save you time, inconvenience, and the additional expense of visiting an urgent care or emergency room.
FINANCIAL TIPS
Physicians to Children is considered an out-of-network provider as it does not participate with any insurance plans. However, at the end of every visit we provide you with an insurance claim documentation to assist you in obtaining reimbursement from your insurance company. You may be reimbursed if you participate in a PPO insurance plan. There are third party companies, such as Better (https://getbetter.co.), that use a photo of your claim to help you obtain reimbursement. They determine your eligibility and follow up with your health insurance company.
Physicians to Children believes that our families may benefit most from a PPO insurance policy and/or a health savings account. A PPO insurance policy tends to pay you for out-of-network services, while an HMO policy does not. A PPO policy will also let you choose which physicians are the best fit for your child and will not require referrals for specialists. A high deductible PPO insurance policy works best with a health savings account (HSA). A HSA is a tax favored savings account for the purpose of paying medical expenses. Contributions to your HSA are 100% tax deductible, withdrawals from the account to pay for expenses are tax-free, and interest on your savings are tax deferred. HSAs are a great way to pay yearly deductibles.
